Take a private safari to the best of all the east African national parks. Depending on the time of year, you’ll have the chance to see the great migration in the Serengeti National Park, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. The tour starts in Arusha and ends in Arusha.

Along the way you’ll have countless adventures in your own animal tracking vehicle, traveling the wild African savanna in search of big game. If you’re a nature enthusiast at heart, this trip is definitely one you don’t want to miss!

Itinerary Day Description

Day 1: ARRIVAL day in Arusha at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

Upon your arrival, I will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and drive with you to your hotel. There you will be met by our safari guide, who will provide you with a safari briefing. Enjoy great views of Mt. Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped Uhuru Peak; while you settle for dinner and overnight.

Accommodation at African Tulip, Meals on half board basis

Day 2: Arusha   – Arusha National park

After breakfast you will drive to Arusha National Park, once the site of the action packed Hollywood movie Hatari starring John Wayne and Hardy Kruger

You pass by herds of zebra, buffalo, and giraffe on the savannah. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Momella Lake, famous for huge flocks of colorful flamingos and its views at majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro. You continue in the afternoon with a game drive around the different habitats in this truly beautiful national park.   There are black and white colobus monkeys (unique to this location northern Tanzania), Sykes’s and vervet monkeys, shy forest duikers, elusive leopards and substantial herds of antelope.
If you wish, you can hike at the slopes of Mt Meru in dense forest or at the Crater rim while an armed ranger escorts you to protect you from some of the larger animals.

Accommodation at  Rivertrees Country Inn (Meals on half board basis)

Day 3:             Arusha – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast you will depart for Tarangire, Tanzania’s third largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them.

Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area.

There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, and cheetah and up to six thousand elephant.

Drive out of the Park to   Ol Mesera Tented Camp, at Mto wa Mbu for dinner an overnight on full board basis.

Day 4: Tarangire – Lake Manyara National Park

Tree Climbing Lions & Pink Flamingoes

After breakfast you will depart for Lake Manyara. Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, the park is recognized for its incredible beauty. You can see many game animals such as buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippo and others. Eventually you will arrive and stay overnight at beautiful Lake Manyara, which Ernest Hemingway once called the “The loveliest lake in Africa.” The national park is home to the unique tree-climbing lions of Lake Manyara, which you’ll have the chance to see lounging in the high tree branches.

Day 5: Lake Manyara   –   Ngorongoro Crater

One of the wonders of the world

After breakfast you will drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater often described as one of the wonders of the world.  It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations.

It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. With a bit of luck the ‘Big Five’ can be spotted during one game drive only.

Overnight at Pakulala Ngorongoro Safari Camp All meals included

Day 6:             Ngorongoro – Lake Ndutu – Serengeti National Park

After breakfast you start on your way to Serengeti National Park (driving time some 4 hours, but with plenty to see on the way!) En route you will see grazing zebras, antelopes and giraffes and sometimes some buffalos hiding in the bush.

Around noon you arrive at Lake Ndutu, where the herds of the migration are expected to be. The South Serengeti ecosystem belongs partly to the Serengeti National park and partly to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

In the afternoon you go on a game around Lake Ndutu in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species. After the game drive, you enter the Serengeti National park and drive to your lodge, where you arrive in time for your dinner.

Overnight at Ndutu Wilderness camp     all meals included

Day 7:             Full day’s Game drive in Serengeti National Park

In morning you start early (around 06:00) and go on an early morning game drive to see the nocturnal predators return from the hunt. When the sun is up you enjoy a picnic breakfast and visit the interesting documentation center about Serengeti at Seronera. Return to your camp for a relaxed lunch under the shade of an old acacia tree. In the afternoon you can go out again on game drives or relax at your tented camp.

Overnight at Pumzika Serengeti Camp in western Serengeti (All meals included)

There is an optional hot-air balloon safari (not included in the package price), which will take place in the morning, just as the sun rises. You’ll float in whichever direction the morning winds take you. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon; at times he will ascend to 1000′ or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. After the landing you celebrate with champagne and a full English breakfast prepared and served in the bush in ‘Out of Africa’ style. After breakfast you receive your Serengeti balloon certificate and drive back to your lodge or proceed with your day’s activities and game drives around the Serengeti.

Overnight at Pumzika Serengeti Camp in western Serengeti (All meals included)

Day 8:             Serengeti National Park – Karatu and Mto wa Mbu tour

After breakfast you’ll depart Serengeti national park via Ngorongoro Conservation Area, to Karatu and Mto wa Mbu Villages where you’ll spend a beautiful afternoon and evening exploring local life and their culture plus buying local souvenirs.

Spend the day in Karatu, a small town located at the outer rim of the Ngorongoro Highlands. Sitting on a plateau of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, the town enjoys a beautiful climate. Your day will be filled with many cultural encounters. Go on a stroll to the busy market of Karatu Town and pay a visit to a descendent of the old Irawq-Tribe. He will give you an interesting introduction into the traditions of Tanzania and his tribe.

If you wish, you can then visit a local school or orphanage, or one of the colorful nearby Masai Markets (if one is held). Then rest up and enjoy a night in Karatu Village, at a charming lodge nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment.

Dinner and overnight at: Gibbs Farm in Karatu, all meals included

Day 9:                    Karatu – Arusha town – Kilimanjaro International Airport

Today you will have to bid a fond farewell to Tanzania. Early morning after breakfast, you will depart Mto wa Mbu via Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight. Welcome back to Tanzania!
